Dear You,
This might’ve been the longest January of my life! Those 31 days felt like torture from time to time. There isn’t much noteworthy about the previous month, but I’d still like to take a look at January 2026. So, I’ve compiled my favourite things from the last month into a little list. I’m trying to take something good out of every experience and this is a simple exercise to work on that mindset.
1) Yoga Block
This might seem a little silly, but a 6 euro pink yoga block really helped me this month. I started going to a musician’s yoga class, and a soft block was required for that. I did not want to abuse my thick The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes book anymore, so I went ahead and got the real deal. Not only, has the block been great for the class, it has also upgraded my floor game. And by that, I mean the time that I spent on the floor, in my room. I’ve unlocked new positions and ways to enjoy floor time.
2) MIKA – Hyperlove
This might seem like an obvious pick, since I made a blog post and a YouTube video about this album. But nonetheless, Hyperlove has been an amazing experience, and it has really made my month better. It is quite rare that I enjoy new albums so much on the first listen, but this is an exception. Listen and love!
3) Strangers: Homosexual Love in the Nineteenth Century, by Robb Graham
I read two books in January, and this one really stuck out to me. This book deals with the cruel and unfortunate realities of gay men and women in the Victorian era. I learned so much new information, and actually felt like I could somehow connect with those who came before us. Even though the topic was quite heavy, I found myself chuckling multiple times while reading this. The outdated homophobic terms and assumptions feel ridiculous by today’s standards. Maybe my amusement came out of disbelief. Despite the upsetting nature of this subject, the book ended on a happy note, discussing fictional queer heroes. According to Graham, all detectives are gay. And I think I have to agree…
4) Sherlock Holmes adaptations
Somehow, Sherlock Holmes will find his way onto a list like this every month. Anyway, this January I finished Granada Holmes and started the Soviet adaptation. I feel like I’ve fallen in love with these characters and stories in a complete new way. Jeremy Brett’s performance as Holmes is outstanding and the unusual tone of the Soviet version, both really have shed a new light onto these adventures. Very excited to continue Livanov’s version soon, and to revisit Granada in the future.
5) Snow
Yeah, just snow… It is so pretty outside. I am so glad I get to experience these freezing temperatures and gorgeous Winter days.
